Xakanaxa Campsite – Moremi Game Reserve
Xakanaxa Campsite is one of the most scenic and sought-after campsites within Moremi Game Reserve, ideally positioned on the banks of the Khwai River in the Xakanaxa Lagoon area. This region is famous for its lush waterways, mopane woodlands, and rich wildlife diversity. Xakanaxa offers some of the best game viewing and birdwatching in the Okavango Delta.
The campsite features a handful of shaded, spacious stands, each equipped with a braai area and a water tap. Guests share basic but well-maintained ablution facilities with flush toilets and hot showers. There is no electricity on-site, so campers must be fully self-sufficient.
Because the campsite is located inside Moremi Game Reserve, park fees are mandatory in addition to the camping fees. These must be paid at the entrance gate or in advance at DWNP offices in Maun or Kasane. Bookings for Xakanaxa Campsite are managed by Kwalate Safaris, and reservations can be made through their website: www.kwalatesafaris.com
Xakanaxa is a year-round destination, offering excellent wildlife encounters including elephants, lions, leopards, and hippos. The surrounding lagoons and channels are also home to countless bird species, including African fish eagles and herons.
Travel Tip: Be aware of deep sand and water crossings on the way to Xakanaxa, especially during the wet season. A high-clearance 4x4 vehicle and solid off-road driving skills are essential. No fuel, shops, or supplies are available nearby—come fully prepared.
